Singer-songwriter Jackson Melnick was raised in Crested Butte. Now performing as Jack Gwydion, the last name coming to him in a dream meaning “of the trees,” Jack lives to sense the beating heart of poetry and has long admired musicians with small-town sincerity and big-world humanity. Aware these are terrifying, desperate times— and aware music has been a tonic and vehicle for soul-remembrance in times of great upheaval— Gwydion promotes the generosity of spirit behind all that is good in his home country and the world beyond. His music speaks to the modern day and timeless mysteries of the heart with Dylan-esque lyrics and a seriousness that exhibits a power far beyond his years. His debut LP, At the Foot of Heart’s Mystery, garnered praise from American Songwriter Magazine, saying, “the mountainous landscape works itself into (his) songs.” The album has a warm, vintage feel, reconciling the city and the forest, the road and the home, questions on the mind of anyone living in the modern world with an ancient soul. His music has the presence of a gift, with moments of profound insight, guidance and humor reminiscent of Melvana Rumi, an early Leonard Cohen or Khalil Gibran. Come and embrace the spirit and energy of Crested Butte native son Jack Gwydion, a name destined to rise and remain in the Americana lexicon.
