ABOUT ABOUT

Rooted in the tradition of bluegrass while actively reshaping its definition, Colorado-based Head for the Hills defies expectation in the worlds of progressive acoustic and modern roots. Their neo-noir style incorporates rock, jazz, hip hop, world and folk, stitching together cutting edge songs that bridge the divide between past and future acoustic music. Venturing into a myriad of sonic landscapes, their multifarious and improvisational music is forward-thinking. Firing on all cylinders comes their 2017 album “Potions and Poisons,” showcasing Head for the Hills at the peak of their powers of musical alchemy. The album takes a look at the darker side of love, lust and life, examining our affinity for and aversion to the things that make us fragile but human. In the great tradition of bluegrass, it delivers some bitter pills, reflective yet buoyant, restorative and full of vibrancy. Awarded “Best Bluegrass in Colorado” four times, they’ve played music festivals such as High Sierra Music Festival and RockyGrass; been featured on NPR and eTown; were charted on the CMJ Top 200 for two of their four albums; and played with a diverse range of acts from David Grisman and Sam Bush to The Flaming Lips and Cake. Head for the Hills is Adam Kinghorn (guitar), Joe Lessard (violin), Matt Loewen (upright bass), and Sam Parks (mandolin). Ages 13 and up.
