Learn the art of glass bead making with Carbondale artist Robert Burch. This workshop will start with a lecture of the different facets of glass working and their achievability. Students will start their beads by heating glass over a 3,000 degree torch, wrapping different colored glass around a steel-rod called a mandrel. Students will then experiment with glass making techniques such as basic shaping and decorating techniques using glass rods, stringers, and various hand tools. Students will leave with several glass beads and a much greater understanding of the contemporary glass scene.
