Patty Larkin redefines the boundaries of folk-urban pop music with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising vocals and lyrics. Hers are richly contemplative tracks about solitude and togetherness, open vistas and spiritual quests. Her alto voice can be breathy and confiding, or tinged with the blues, delicate yet expressive. She is not only a virtuosic slide guitarist, but an imaginative and versatile vocalist, and riveting performer. Her newest works, entitled Song Poemsand scheduled for release in 2018, have been energized by the poets, writers and artists she has met on her path. Using the more malleable framework of the poem, Patty stretches the boundaries of songwriting with a rediscovery of her love of words and the joyful act of making music from poetry. The Boston Globe calls her “an uncommonly articulate guitarist.” The New York Times hails her as “a mood-shaper,” comparing her to the best of Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams. Her over 30-year career has her holding an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee where she is also an Artist in Residence and eleven Boston Music Awards.
